Team Rwanda's Nyandwi gets a “Velo Ikawa”
Yesterday Nyandwi Uwase, a Team Rwanda member, arrived at my house on a bus. He was here to pick up a bike, but not a race bike, one of our cargo "coffee" bikes. His two riding partners Inocent Sibomana and Jean de Dieu arrived a bit later on their bikes.
Nyandwi lives in Gisenyi at the border of Congo on Lake Kivu only a mile from Goma where all the conflict is happening. There is a large bike population where he lives and we have started promoting our “Coffee Cargo” bikes through the riders.
The Team Rwanda riders are already famous and attract an incredible amount of attention, they have their water transport and other transport needs that they do on a classic local single speed bike. Now they will be using our specially designed bikes for this purpose and at the same time demonstrating to their communities how useful and important the bikes are. We are giving the riders a chance to earn extra income, teach the locals about the bike program and promote our bikes.
We look forward to success on all fronts.
