Louis Garneau is Proud to Announce the Helmet and Clothing Sponsorship of the Rwandan National Cycling Team

The President and Founder of Louis Garneau has a new mission, One World on Two Wheels. As business has turned global and bikes have become a token of solidarity throughout the world, Louis Garneau, himself, has a new philanthropic mission is to bring cycling to EVERYONE. “While bikes will serve different needs in different geographies, it is evident that the bike is a universal connection whether it is a means of transportation or recreation,” notes Louis Garneau.
With this in mind, Louis Garneau is proud to announce the helmet and clothing sponsorship of the Rwandan National Cycling Team. Team Rwanda's goal of successful participation in International Cycling competition will in hopes provide increasing awareness and national pride for Rwanda internationally.
Project Rwanda is committed to furthering the economic development of Rwanda through initiatives based on the bicycle as a tool and symbol of hope. The goal of Project Rwanda is to use the bike to help boost the Rwandan economy as well as re-brand Rwanda as a beautiful and safe place to do business and visit freely. "My individual goal since the inception of Louis Garneau has been to not only promote the sport of cycling, but to provide all individuals the opportunity and access to ride regardless of obstacles. In 2010, I have pushed this initiative through Project Rwanda and more recently through, the partnership with the Bahati Foundation, which supports youth in inner-city and underserved communities. As Louis Garneau expands on the global market, it is important for our efforts to grow globally as well. I believe that biking is a way of life. It is a philosophy," says Founder and President, Louis Garneau.
The team was the result of an inspiring visit to Rwanda by bicycle designer and president of Ritchey Design, Tom Ritchey. The recognition of the vital role of wooden bikes for transport in Rwanda caused Ritchey to create the Wooden Bike Classic bike race and collaborate with Jonathan ‘Jock’ Boyer to create the first Rwandan National Team.
Jonathan (Jock) Boyer, National Rwandan Cycling Team Coach, was the first American to participate in the Tour de France and competed 5 times, finishing 12th in 1983. His work and leadership with the National Rwanda Cycling Team is inspirational. He remarks on the recent victory of the team: "Stage three of the Tour of Cameroon was just won by Gasore (Alex) Hategka who, just 8 months ago, was an orphan kid seeking out his living by carrying potatoes on his back!! After testing him, it was very evident he had extra power deserving a place on Team Rwanda. He then spent two months at the UCI training center, competed in the Continental Championships in Namibia, Tour of Rwanda and now here."
In addition to sponsoring the National Rwanda Team, Project Rwanda will be selling jerseys online at projectrwanda.org with proceeds supporting the organization.
As a company, Louis Garneau will maintain the focus of providing highly technical and innovative gear designed for all cyclists. As part of this strategic philosophy of the company, the team will be riding some of the best custom apparel and helmets available, including:
Raglan Jersey: Small internal honeycomb structure increases airflow and wicks moisture to keep you dry and comfortable. An anatomic fit conforms to the contours of your body while providing total freedom of movement. Three back pockets allow you to store essentials for your ride. Elasticized for a secure fit.
Performance Bibs: High Lycra construction knit maintains its shape and provides support. Conventional gripper is replaced by a compressive Powerband that reduces lower leg pressure, provides muscle support, and does not restrict circulation. Low profile stitching reduces chafing common with traditional seams. Non-abrasive seams lie flat and offer a smooth transition between panels. Airgel chamois endures long rides on the saddle due to Crabyon outer fabric which accelerates wound healing. Perforated gel inserts are comfortable while breathable.
Diamond Helmet: The Diamond represents our greatest achievement in helmets. At 285 grams and over 40 vents, we have designed a helmet to outperform the competition. Through patented technology, we have unleashed an absurd amount of ventilation while still meeting safety standards.

biking or cycling
Bike riding is one of my favorite outdoor activities. It is also called as biking or cycling and one form of exercise. It could also be a means of transportation or recreation. It is said to be a highly efficient mode of transportation because of its numerous benefits. It generates renewable energy and thus no air pollution, reducing traffic congestion, minimizing noise pollution and lower user cost as well as societal costs.
