  • Clothing - there are now many clothing choices available with SPF and or repellent in them. They work well and are easy to care for while traveling.
    • Warm weather clothing - light and quick dry w/ SPF
    • Pants, shirts, skirt, dress, socks, underwear
    • Light hiking shoes, sandals
    • Swimsuit
    • Hat
    • Rain jacket & gloves if you will be gorilla tracking
  • Toiletries
    • Comb, brush, shampoo, soap, deoderant
    • Tooth brush & tooth paste
    • Hand sanitizer
    • Sunscreen (30+) Rwanda is just off the equator and this is very important (Some now have DEET in them, a nice option for packing light)
    • Insect repellent - If you have an allergic reaction to DEET there are many good organic options out there. Cooking vanilla works well and it smells good too. Try some in a plastic spray bottle.
    • Feminine products – not readily available in Rwanda
  • Bike
    • Extra tubes and tires, as well as portable pump, patches. (Rwandan roads are tough on tires)
      • 700c x 25 standard thickness - presta valve
      • 26 x 2.1 standard / HD thickness - schrader valve
    • Helmet, Gloves, and glasses
    • Small universal tools
    • Ankle ID - if you have health issues please purchase one and wear it while you are on the group rides. These are easy to find online for about $5.
  • Cash
    • $50 per day
  • Medicine
    • Bring not only your prescriptive medicines but also others you may need.  Benadryl, Tylenol…
  • Emergency Info
    • A list of emergency numbers and an itinerary
    • Include phone numbers for your family as well as the U.S. Embassy phone number.
  • Other things that might be handy:
    Alarm clock, camera (film, batteries, chargers, extra scan discs…) binoculars, notebook and writing tools, refillable water bottle, flashlight or headlight.
  • Bring items to donate:
    • Books for the Library
    • School supplies for the kids
    • Clothes, medicine, toothbrushes, soccer balls
    • A hand crank radio/light (photo right) would be a great item to bring along and great for leaving behind. It is available at Costco, under $20 for a two-pack.
    • Bikes and bike extras like tubes, tires & patch kits, saddles, grips, etc.
