I am proud to introduce three NEW project directors who will join the All-Star team of Project Rwanda directors. Dave Carroll is our new Media Director and will use his expertise in radio/television to get our stories out to the public and generate interest in the cause. Doug Grant, the man behind the highly successful 50 Miles for 50 Bikes fundraiser AND PRINT BUISNESS OWNER, has agreed to be our Ride for Rwanda Events Director and will share his experience and knowledge with others who would like to organize a ride or event to support Project Rwanda. Ben Ransom, RANCORP, will step up as our Coffee Bike Project Director. This is an R & D position, working with me, hands-on in further developing the coffee bike and its field use.

Coffee Bike Project Director

I am moved by the tremendous response of people volunteering their talents, resources and vision to fill the growing needs of Project Rwanda. People have come forward to help and I could not be doing this without them. There is a crazy amount of work to be done as the scope of this dynamic organization continues to grow. It is fun for me to be a part of this group of talented people. I feel blessed and benefited by this adventure of personal growth we are all going through together. And I can not even tell you how satisfying it is to see the passion that exists out there for this tiny seed of a project that just 19 months ago was only an idea.

A characteristic of my volcanic work style is that I design first then figure out how to build it second. Consequently many of our director positions became important at a moments notice. So I also want to acknowledge the current directors and their contributions that have gotten Project Rwanda to where it is today. Susan Brown, our Executive Director, is doing a great job managing the operational tasks that keep this boat afloat. Jock Boyer is doing things only Jock Boyer can do, as the National Rwandan Cycling Team Director, he is molding the raw talents of these Rwandan athletes into professional contenders. Janette Day is our Web Site/Art Director who has created a visual hub from which we launch our imagination. Shelly Rosen has jumped in with two feet as our Wooden Bike Classic Travel & Events Coordinator, she is planning an event from 8,000 miles away. Benjo Clark is our Coffee Bike Technical Service Director, the success of the coffee bike has led us to a need for bike mechanics to build and service the bikes.

So I welcome the new volunteers to the collective energy that is Project Rwanda. I also invite any one with a little spare time, maybe a few hours a week, and interested in joining our efforts to contact us. These are not full-time jobs but hobbies that have an impact on the lives of the Rwandan people. We have two unfilled Director positions just waiting for the perfect match.

  • Wooden Bike Coffee Sales Director: Coordinate the relationships between the growers, roasters and retailers. Marketing and promotion of Wooden Bike Coffee.
  • MULER Director: Position lovingly named for that special logistics maestro who would cooordinate the shipping of goods both to and from Rwanda. This exchange will require getting bikes, equipment and tools to Rwanda with volunteers willing to take items with them on personal flights, getting Rwandan volunteers to meet them at the airport. Handling reimbursement issues for extra baggage costs. Then arrange for Rwandan wooden bikes & crafts to be brought back to the U.S. on return flights.
