Project Rwanda lands in Ruhengeri
Saturday, 19 April 2008

Rwanda's Parc National des Volcans (PNV) consists of 125 square km of mountain forest and is home to the six Virunga Volcanoes and the world famous mountain gorillas. Access to the park begins in the lively town of Ruhengeri. Serving as the entry point for gorilla visits, Ruhengeri also features an astoundingly high concentration of bicycle use. So it is here, against this stunning backdrop, that Project Rwanda will base it's operations for the third annual Wooden Bike Classic.

You may remember Alphonse Maniriho from Rwandan director Eric Kabera's short video dedication, Alphonse tricked out his bike with a built-in radio and became the envy and inspiration of his community. After the Rwandan Film Festival, held March 23 - 30, 2008, Project Rwanda presented Alphonse with his very own Coffee Bike. The Coffee Bike Project has mainly focused on the farmers in the Kabara region, so Alphonse is the first person in Ruhengeri to own a Coffee Bike.

We hope you will join us this year for the 'Ride of your life' - at the Third Annual Wooden Bike Classic - August 30-31. In addition to the races, there will be bike tours and sight-seeing events so register now to receive updates as the plans progress.
